State of Ghana's clean cooking sector

The Executive Director, CEESD, Ing. Dr. Julius C. Ahiekpor gave a presentation on the State of Clean Cooking in Ghana. The presentation gives an overview of the interventions made by government and other partners, successes chalked and recommendations for scale up. He bemoaned the number of people especially women who die yearly from cooking with uncleaned solid fuels and admonished various stakeholders for not doing enough for the sector. 'Considering the over 18,000 cooking related deaths recorded yearly, we must treat the present cookstove sector as a national security threat and put in place drastic measures to curtail the situation' suggested Dr. Ahiekpor.

The 2018 annual forum was organized by Ghana Alliance for Clean Cookstoves (GHACCO) in collaboration with the Netherlands Development Organization (SNV), the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves (GACC) and the Energy Commission. The forum brought together several stakeholders including government  agencies, ministries, development partners, private sector, civil society organizations, academia, and research institutions.
